President-elect Barack Obama is still humble enough to do laundry -- ON HIS ABS!
Haven't posted for a while, what with Christmas, work, birthday parties, drinking shots and dancing in biker bars.....
But here is a photo of the new President Elect - damn - he's got a great chest. I realize that he - at 47 - is younger than I am. That's a first....a president younger than me. Da-yum.
Some folks are upset that he is photographed with a bottle of water - how environmentally incorrect they say - but whatever.

Bong Hits 4 Jesus....the latest news....
Remember the "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" guy?
Joseph Frederick of .... Alaska (hmmmm.. irony much?) displayed a banner reading "BONG HITS 4 JESUS" when the Olympic Torch was passing through in 2002 (wow! that long ago?!)
Not amused, his principal (Sarah Palin?....no...just kidding) confiscated the banner and suspended him for five days. He shot back something about Thomas Jefferson. She tacked on another five.
Frederick took his free-speech argument to court, with backing from the ACLU.
Five years later it was before the U.S. Supreme Court, with Kenneth Starr (Boo, Hiss!!!!!) representing the school. The court ruled that since Frederick was holding the banner at a "school-supervised" (though not on school grounds) event, the principal had a right to restrict what he said about illegal drugs—even if his message was rather nonsensical.
(It was truly great reading about the SCOTUS discussing "Bong Hits"....)
So....the latest news on Mr. Frederick: Now 25, Frederick is learning Mandarin and teaching English in China. Although he is proud that he stood up for his rights, he regrets "the bad precedent set by the ruling."
His case was finally settled at the state level in November, winning him $45,000 and forcing the school to hold a forum on free speech.

Converting dead Mormons into homosexuals.....

Mormons have a practice of converting dead people from other religions into Mormons through a practice known as posthumous baptism. Ordinarily, this might just seem a silly act of disrespect towards the individual's personal beliefs and convictions.
However, the Mormons have made an overt effort to posthumously baptize Jewish Holocaust victims. That is not merely silly and disrespectful, that is superfluously offensive. An agreement between Jews and Mormons limited the practice thirteen years ago. But the Mormons returned to the practice recently.
Well, then of course, many of us rightly took offense for the heavy Mormon influence during the Prop 8 vote in California. Well, I decided to kill two birds with one stone. I am converting dead Mormons into homosexuals.

WICHITA, KAN. -- A Wichita, Kansas preacher says he will not remove a message on his church sign that says President-Elect Barack Obama is a Muslim.The sign is staying up despite the fact that Obama is a Christian.
The sign at Spirit One Christian Center reads, "America we have a Muslim president. This is sin against the Lord."
Obama supporters reportedly got into a shouting match with parishioners outside the church on Sunday.

Life After the Oil Crash.....
Oy.....an article about Peak Oil and what it all means for us....
I was recently sitting around at a wedding and we were speculating on what we would all do if the economy really really collapsed. To the point of barter, buy a shotgun and grow your own food. We all tried to figure out what skills we had that we could use in such an "economy" and what foods would be best to grow for the best resale value.

Guess we are not the only ones thinking like this.

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah's growing tourism industry and the star-studded Sundance Film Festival are being targeted for a boycott by bloggers, gay rights activists and others seeking to punish the Mormon church for its aggressive promotion of California's ban on gay marriage.

There also should be a law in California preventing out of state meddling with our Constitution. Why on earth it takes a simple majority to mod the constitution, while a tax increase for BART takes 2/3's is beyond me.
And on the lighter side, a Mormon called me a "fag" and a "loser" for proposing the elimination of their tax exempt status. Nice family oriented people those Mormons. Of course this a** doesn't seem to understand that hetero families - married - with children - can in fact support the rights of their gay friends for marriage.
I have decided that "social conservative" is code for "racist homophobe".

Open Letter to the Red States......
Dear Red States:
If you manage to steal this election too we've decided we're leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we're taking the other Blue States with us. In case you aren't aware, that includes California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to
the people of the new country of New California.
To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states. We get stem cell research and the best beaches. We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood.
We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom. We get Harvard. You get Ole' Miss.
We get 85% of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama.
We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states pay their fair share.
Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22% lower than the Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms.
Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war, and we're going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they're apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don't care if you don't show pictures of their children's caskets coming home. We do wish you success in Iraq , and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we're not willing to spend our resources in Bush's Quagmire.
With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80% of the country's fresh water, more than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92% of the nation's fresh fruit, 95% of America's quality wines, 90% of all cheese, 90% of the high tech industry, 95% of the corn and soybeans (thanks Iowa!), most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT. With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88% of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92% of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes, 99% of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia. We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.
Additionally, 38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62% believe life is sacred unless we're discussing the war, the death penalty or gun laws, 44% say that evolution is only a theory, 53% that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61% of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.

Great article at The New Yorker discussing the differences in attitude toward sex, sex education and teen pregnancy between the "Reds" and the "Blues".
Long, but worth the read.

Palin wears fake eyelashes.....
Ok - those are FAKE!
Call me petty, shallow, trite....but jeeze - fake eyelashes? She's supposed to be a candidate for "a heartbeat away from leader of the free world"....not Beyonce.
Sorry, but in my opinion (and I wear lots of makeup, trust me) fake eyelashes are something for clubbing or for people with serious cases of alopecia, not for "serious" Presidential candidates.

Wow, I just love it when people tell me EXACTLY what God has stated.....
To which my response is:
You presume to know what God has stated.
Is this the God that supported Plural Marriage for Mormons (since repudiated....sort of) ?
Or is it the God that was used to justify stoning of adulterers?
Is this the God that was used to justify slavery?
Is this the God that was used to justify bans on interracial marriage?
Is this the God that was used to justify the Holocaust against the Jews?
Is this the God that has torn apart Northern Ireland, Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan for 2000 years?
Is this the God in whose name so much evil, violence and hatred has been done over the centuries?
That God?
It is extremely arrogant for you, a mere mortal human to speak for God.
If God is truly all-knowing and all powerful, you can't presume to speak for him/her or claim that you know what he/she has stated.
The so-called "word of God" - the Bible and more particularly the "book of Mormon" - are but interpretations of God's word by imperfect humans.
Those words have been twisted over the millennia to suit the political aims and goals of Man.
Numerous gnostic gospels (The Gospel of Thomas, the Gospel of Mary, the Gospel of Philip to mention just a few) and the books of the Essenes were eliminated from
from the "official" versions in the early era after Christ's death because they did not align with the political ambitions of the Roman Church.
Unless you have read all the books of the bible - both included and otherwise and have interpreted them from either the original Greek or Aramaic, you can't be sure at all what "God" has said.
Perhaps He has only said what Man wants him to say for political expediency.

Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan.......
...is an American soldier who died in Iraq.
Born in New Jersey. Muslim. Think about that when you listen to the Republicans render their hate-filled speaches about Arabs, Muslims, "Barack HUSSEIN Obama" etc.

And his name was Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, and he was an American. He was born in New Jersey. He was 14 years old at the time of 9/11, and he waited until he can go serve his country, and he gave his life.”

I received an email from an old high school classmate telling me that how "horrible it would be if this doesn't pass....."
I couldn't disagree more. I find Prop 8 extremely mean-spirited and exclusionary. Prop 8 does not "defend marriage"...nor does it "protect my children", nor does it contribute to "religious freedom".
My kids think that Prop 8 is "stupid" - I am very proud of them for that.

Racism in America.....
This is shocking. Ok, maybe not so shocking. Damn disappointing though. Sickening. Absolutely sickening.
Certainly doesn't reflect well on Ohio. Sorry to hear your economy sucks Ohio, but with attitudes like this, perhaps it's well deserved.

this lovely thing - Obama on a "food stamp" surrounded by fried chicken and watermelon. Uh.....racist much?
Their response?..."The organization's president says she wasn't aware of the racial connotations of the image, which is of Barack Obama on a food stamp -- "It was just food to me."

Targeting the middle class? You Betcha! After all, McCain only thinks you're rich if you make $5 million a year. So $1 million a year....middle class for sure!

Speak Like an Adult......
This article by Heather Mac Donald on City-Journal.com captures it for me - "I know, it’s elitist to expect a candidate for president or vice president to speak like an adult. "...But, hey: “Total role reversal here.”
When we were listening to the VP Debate a couple of weeks ago, my 15 year old daughter was shocked - "OMG - she sounds like me....and I'm (like) 15 and she's (like) running for Vice President...OMG!!!"
Get my drift here? What's up with Sarah Palin's linguistic skills anyway. "Gotcha", "you betcha", "you know", "like"....*sigh*
And then there are the rambles....guess it's too elitist to expect someone to be able to talk coherently:
